New sacrifice medal will honour troops

Published: Saturday, August 30, 2008 OTTAWA -Michaelle Jean, the Governor-General, has announced the creation of a new military decoration -- the Sacrifice Medal. The medal will be given to military personnel, members of allied forces or Canadian civilians working for the Canadian Forces who suffered wounds or death caused by hostile action, on or after Oct. 7, 2001. "Our soldiers deserve our utmost respect and deepest gratitude," said Ms. Jean, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of Canada. "This medal recognizes the valued contribution of those who sacrificed their health or their lives while serving Canada. Our soldiers deserve our utmost respect and deepest gratitude."
