Some Saskatchewan reservations practise banishment. Community safety often key reason.

Alberta's Samson Cree Nation made national news this week when it passed a resolution to ban gang members from one of its reserves, but some Saskatchewan First Nations have been banishing drug dealers and others for years.
First Nations including Mistawasis near Prince Albert, Fishing Lake 200 kilometres east of Saskatoon and Cowessess in the southern Qu'Appelle Valley region have banished people from their communities, according to officials.
"Yes, we have," said Fishing Lake Chief Allan Paquachan.
"We will always do that if we need to," said Mistawasis Chief Norma Johnstone. "We have so many problems in our communities. You bet I'm in favour of it. We have to set a precedent."...Continue reading...
