Mass combining in Sask. claims world record

They were there with their combines to break the world record for the most combine harvesters working simultaneously in a single field. Unoffficially, approximately 240 combines showed up.

It took 249 combines about 12 minutes to reap about 200 acres of oats near Saskatoon and claim an unofficial world record for the most combines harvesting in a single field. "The existing record was 208 and we're going to blow that out of the water," said Rod Thiessen, a Dalmeny-area farmer who helped plan the Saturday event. The achievement returns the record to Canada from Ireland, where an official Guinness World Record was set in 2009 with 175 combines in one field. A 2010 event at Winkler, Man., claimed the title with 200 combines. Two months ago, the Irish group gathered 208 machines to reclaim the top spot. A Justice of the Peace was engaged to verify the statistics for Guinness and organizers will send photos and videos to back up the claim, Thiessen said...Continue reading...
