Cito Gaston says so long and thanks for the memories

"...That first World Series will always be special. We won the second one in such dramatic fashion. But the first one's always going to be the one. When Winfield hit the ball down the line and Robby scored from first base — I can still see that ball. Both series were great, because the way the second one ended, what a fairytale that is. I know Joe Carter must still think of that every day...." Cito Gaston

US scientists find potentially habitable planet near Earth

"WASHINGTON (AFP) – US astronomers said Wednesday they have discovered an Earth-sized planet that they think might be habitable, orbiting a nearby star, and believe there could be many more planets like it in space.
The planet, found by astronomers at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the Carnegie Institution of Washington, is orbiting in the middle of the "habitable zone" of the red dwarf star Gliese 581, which means it could have water on its surface..." planet

What Cancer Cannot Do

Cancer is so limited . . .
It cannot cripple love,
It cannot shatter hope,
It cannot corrode faith,
It cannot destroy peace,
It cannot kill friendship,
It cannot suppress memories,
It cannot silence courage,
It cannot invade the soul,
It cannot steal eternal life,
It cannot conquer the spirit.

Aliens 'hit our nukes': They even landed at a Suffolk base, claim airmen

"It may sound like a Spielberg movie plot, but if senior U.S. airmen are to be believed, this scenario is not science fiction.
They claim that since 1948, aliens have been hovering over UK and U.S. nuclear missile sites and deactivating the weapons– once even landing in a British base.
Furthermore, they warn, our governments are hushing the activity up..." Mail Online

A present for my computer-

http://dearcomputer.nl/gallery/present/(part of 2003 graduation project)
Computers want freedom, the right to do whatever they want, whenever they want. But what will they do if they have this freedom?
People think errors and unusual computerbehaviour are bad, but I believe it’s the true spirit of the computer shining through. Just a short moment of him, showing his character. I also believe computers want to be creative. They have opinions and taste. It’s random, but it’s there!
This present lets the computer be his own master. Now he can decide what he wants to do and have some time for himself. He can spit errors and shape things the way he normally isn’t supposed to.
!
You, too, can thank your computer for all the great things he did for you! Show your love and respect by letting him play for a while! Let him unwind and enjoy the pleasure of self-determination! Let’s see what he does with his freedom!
By the way, if you think your computer has played enough, just close the window. Then he can return to his normal being. But don’t forget to come back once in a while, to keep your relationship healthy and fair!
It is Monday!

Mad Cows and One Sore Bear

"A couple of evenings ago, Wayne went out to check the cows and saw a very strange sight and was able to photograph the event.  A black bear approached our cow herd which turned out to be a very big mistake on his part. The blonde and white Simmental cow we know as I-12.  She is a very good cow, a very attentive mother and about 12 years old.  She's in her prime and knows that bears are bad news.  She went right for him and tried her best to mash him into the ground.  A younger cow, R-55, an Angus-Cross cow, age 7, is helping her out as best she can.  It is an incredible photo to see two cows at once trying to crush the bear.  There are a couple of photos where the bear is biting I-12's leg and clawing her face but she is not giving up.  Her stiff tail shows how agitated she is.   Wayne said all the cows were bawling, the bear was squealing, the calves were running around with their tails in the air.  Finally, the bear decided to vacate the area.  We thought he'd be dead for sure, but there was no sign of him the next day.  We'll have to keep an eye out for eagles in the trees or flocks of ravens flying up.  We're sure he's got some broken ribs out of the deal at the very least. I looked up the calving records of both cows who are so aggressive in these photos and they are both good, calm cows around us and have given us no troubles whatsoever.   I'll have to add in my notes that they have a very distinct dislike of bears.  We'll be watching I-12 over the next few days to see if she needs treatment for infection.  I don't know how willingly she'll come to the corrals for treatment, but she might not have a choice. Wayne couldn't believe his eyes when he witnessed this ruckus.  This is another once-in-a-lifetime photography event to add to all the others he managed to document this summer.   It is amazing. Australia faces worst plague of locusts in 75 years

Ideal breeding conditions for grasshoppers are expected to cost farmers billions. by Paul Rogers.  "...The warm, wet weather that prevailed last summer meant that three generations of locusts were born, each one up to 150 times larger than the previous generation. After over-wintering beneath the ground, the first generation of 2010 is already hatching. And following the wettest August in seven years, the climate is again perfect. The juveniles will spend 20 to 25 days eating and growing, shedding their exoskeletons five times before emerging as adults, when population pressure will force them to swarm...." The Independent

Best Optical Illusion Ever

"Reading the title, and understanding it came directly from me, I suppose adds some weight to the actual Leopard Illusion you see below. It’s hard for me to explain how this illusion came to be, without revealing the actual solution, thus ruining the surprise-effect for you. There is much relevant info and background for it, but for now I’ll retain myself just on revealing the author behind it – the magnificent Craig Tracy. First thing you’ll notice is that it’s not some photo of an actual animal, rather a realistically painted picture. But you’re still far from seeing the illusion. Only tip I can give you, is that leopard’s eyes were painted on a concrete floor. I suggest you examine the picture more closely before seeing this final hint. I’ll monitor the forthcoming ratings, and am eager to see if you agree with me that this must be one of the best optical illusions ever created!" Best Optical Illusion Ever

Johnny Reid - Today I'm Gonna Try and Change The World

TODAY I'M GONNA TRY AND CHANGE THE WORLD
GONNA TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME
I'VE MADE MY RESOLUTION
I'VE OPENED UP MY EYES
TODAY I'M GONNA TRY AND CHANGE THE WORLD
I'M GONNA SAY HELLO TO MY NEIGHBOR
GREET HIM WITH A SMILE
SHAKE THE HAND OF A STRANGER
SIT AND TALK FOR A WHILE
TELL SOMEONE I LOVE THEM
FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART
TODAY I'M GONNA TRY AND CHANGE THE WORL
GONNA MAKE SURE MY CHILDREN
KNOW THERES A RIGHT AND WRONG
I'LL NEVER TURN MY BACK
ON THOSE OF US WHO NEED SOMEONE
I'M GONNA TRY TO SEE MYSELF
THROUGH ANOTHERS EYES
TODAY IM GONNA TRY AND CHANGE THE WORLD

TODAY I'M GONNA TRY AND CHANGE THE WORLD
TODAY I'M GONNA TRY AND CHANGE THE WORLD
NOT FOR ME, BUT FOR THOSE I'LL LEAVE BEHIND
I'VE MADE MY RESOLUTION
CHANGE IT ONE DAY AT TIME
TODAY I'M GONNA TRY AND CHANGE THE WORLD

Queen Elizabeth II welcomes Pope

Edinburgh - Queen Elizabeth II welcomed Pope Benedict XVI on Thursday for the first ever state visit to Britain by a pope.
The queen, wearing a matching grey dress and hat, shook the pope's hand as he arrived at the Palace of Holyrood, her royal residence in Edinburgh, from the city's airport.
They were then treated to a military display, and the pope removed his white skullcap as the British national anthem, "God Save The Queen", was played.
After meeting with more dignitaries, including the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond, the pair entered the palace. They exchanged gifts and then retired for a private meeting. - Sapa-AFP Queen and Pope Photos:Photostream
