Two Guys Swam Through Flood Waters To Save Stranded Foxes

White Wolf:

"Two metres of water didn't stop a couple of Saskatchewan men from swimming through a field to save some stranded wildlife.

Colin Graham lives near the village of Welwyn, about 250 kilometres east of Regina, which was hit hard with rain on the weekend. Some areas got 100 to 200 millimetres. "All of our crops here are under a lake pretty much," Graham said.

Since this spring, Graham has been watching a family of foxes on his property. "[They] have been sitting out on this rock pile near our house for all spring," he said. "My sister wondered what happened to the foxes, so we drove out there and there was just one rock sticking out of the top of the water." On top of that rock, Graham noticed one young fox stranded on what he estimated was about eight feet of water..."http://www.whitewolfpack.com/2014/08/two-guys-swam-through-flood-waters-to.html

Just second after beginning, a world record breaking solo tightrope walk almost ended in tragedy as the stuntman slipped off the rope, nearly falling to his death. As he hung more than 950ft in the air above the Chief North Gully in Canada, highwire artist Spencer Seabrooke lost his footing on the lifeline beneath his feet. The 26-year-old was luckily able to compose himself and climb back onto the rope...http://realitypod.com/2015/08/21/highwire-artist-nearly-falls-to-his-death-while-wire-walking-951ft-above-ground/

Saving Canada’s mountain bluebird

Photo: Veronica Reist

For as long as I can remember, birds have fascinated me. From my pre-teen years, rafting on a country slough, to recent bird expeditions to Columbia and Australia, I have sought out their pleasure.

There are three species of bluebirds, all found in North America: the eastern, western and mountain bluebird. The mountain bluebird breeds in the west, from the western states up through Canada and parts of Alaska and across the Rocky Mountains. Like many other birds, female bluebirds are much less colourful than the males. They often look more grey or brown than blue, with the exception of the tips of their wings and tails. Henry David Thoreau wrote, “The bluebird carries the sky on his back.”...https://www.readersdigest.ca/travel/canada/mountain-bluebird/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=rd_ourcanada&_cmp=OurCanadaCEM&_ebid=OurCanadaCEM4/18/2019&_mid=273591&ehid=E7EBF48E26DE0A6FA55A56B74D84792B5AD69129

Third suspicious fire in Roseneath area destroys historic Anglican church

Global News

A fire Tuesday night destroyed St. James Anglican Church in the village of Roseneath. The cause of the fire is deemed suspicious - the third such fire in the area in the last month. Mark Giunta reports.

A fire destroyed a historic church in the Roseneath area on Tuesday night, the third major suspicious fire in the community in the past three weeks.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been called to Church Road to investigate an overnight blaze which destroyed the St. James Anglican Church — an active building which was erected in 1863 about 1.5 kilometres north of the village of Roseneath. The area is about 50 kilometres south of Peterborough...https://globalnews.ca/news/5150518/suspicious-fire-roseneath-destroys-historic-church/

At a Tel Aviv fruit and vegetable store on Monday night, shoppers suddenly stopped what they were doing to stare at a television screen overhead. The television news anchor was announcing a medical breakthrough: a team of researchers from Tel Aviv University had 3D-printed a heart using a patient’s own cells and biological material.

“The future is here,” one shopper remarked to another...https://www.timesofisrael.com/after-israeli-success-ethical-concerns-bleed-into-hopes-for-3d-printed-organs/?utm_source=Startup+Daily&utm_campaign=startup-daily-2019-04-18&utm_medium=email

Kenney defeated Rachel Notley and the NDP

Thank you!

Friends, today our great province has sent a message to Canada and the world:

Alberta is open for business!

This democratic decision is a message to all of those Albertans who are struggling.

To the unemployed, to those who have given up, to the small business owners barely hanging on, to the young people who got their degrees and diplomas but can’t put them to work, to those who have lost their homes and their hope after years of economic decline and stagnation. To them, tonight, we send this message:

Help is on the way, and hope is on the horizon!...https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/read-jason-kenneys-prepared-victory-speech-in-full-after-ucp-wins-majority-in-alberta-election

On April 13, 2018, exactly one year before his emotionally rich and rollicking performance Saturday at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre, John Prine released The Tree of Forgiveness, his most acclaimed and successful album in several years.

“Today is its birthday, one year ago tonight,” said Prine to the sold-out crowd at the majestically restored venue. The album’s arrival last spring marked Prine’s first set of new songs in some 13 years, and the disc debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. The Tree of Forgiveness also signaled Prine’s confident return after surgery for lung cancer in 2013, following his recovery from neck cancer 15 years earlier...https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/8507057/john-prine-brooklyn-kings-theater-concert-recap?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral

The Bald Eagle: National Symbol, Rockstar… Dubious Moral Character?

By  Lia Purpura

...Ben Franklin didn’t think much of the eagle. (Bald, by the way, is from piebald—two-colored, the white head and tail against the dark body.) He wrote, in a well-known letter to his daughter:

For my own part, I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen as the Representative of our Country. He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly. You may have seen him perched on some dead Tree near the River, where, too lazy to fish for himself, he watches the Labour of the Fishing Hawk; and when that diligent Bird has at length taken a Fish, and is bearing it to his Nest for the Support of his Mate and young Ones, the Bald Eagle pursues him and takes it from him.

With all this injustice he is never in good case, but like those among men who live by sharping & robbing, he is generally poor and often very lousy. Besides, he is a rank coward: The little King Bird not bigger than a Sparrow attacks him boldly and drives him out of the district...https://lithub.com/the-bald-eagle-national-symbol-rockstar-dubious-moral-character/

Russia revamps Arctic military base to stake claim on region

Missile launchers ply icy roads and air defence systems point menacingly into the sky at this Arctic military outpost, a key vantage point for Russia to project its power over the resource-rich polar region.

The base, dubbed Severny Klever (Northern Clover) for its trefoil shape, is painted in the white, blue and red colours of the Russian national flag. It has been designed so soldiers can reach all of its sprawling facilities without venturing outdoors — a useful precaution in an area where temperatures often plunge to minus 50 Celsius during the winter, and even in the short Arctic summer are often freezing at night....https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/russia-arctic-military-tool-1.5085101

Canadian man fined $55,000 for calling a male who identified as a woman a male

By Michael Brown

Bill Whatcott's supporters pray over him just before he turned himself in for a "hate crime." June 2018.

We told you this was coming. We warned you it would happen. We were not crying wolf. We were telling you the truth. And now it is here, as a headline announces: “Canadian tribunal fines Bill Whatcott $55,000 for expressing Christian views on ‘transgenderism.’” In other words, Whatcott called a biological male (who identifies as a female) a “biological male.” That was his crime.

What a miscarriage of justice. What an assault of freedom of speech and expression.

John Carpay, president of the Justice Center for Constitutional Freedom, defended Whatcott, noting in protest that, “The Supreme Court of Canada has long held that freedom of expression is the lifeblood of democracy.” But not when it crosses the lines of transgender activism. Freedom halts there.

Carpay added, “Society is full of people with diverse views and the Tribunal’s decision undermines the foundational principles of the free society and jeopardizes the health of Canada’s democracy.”...https://stream.org/fined-55000-for-calling-a-male-a-male/

Canadians Can Be Fined $1000 For Eating While Driving Starting Next Month

Canada is cracking down on its distracted driving problem with the rollout of stricter laws that impose harsher penalties and heftier fines on guilty offenders. Such measures are more than necessary now, as distracted driving has claimed more lives than impaired driving in provinces like British Columbia and Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador.
But distracted driving is more than just using your cell phonewhile behind the wheel — according to the official RCMP website, distracted driving is anything that can lead to a driver’s impaired judgement while on the road, including:

Trudeau apologizes after telling First Nations mercury poisoning protester, ‘Thank you for your donation’

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is apologizing for what critics called his “smug” response to protesters who hoped to draw his attention to mercury contamination in the First Nation communities of Grassy Narrows and Wabaseemoong during a Liberal fundraiser in Toronto on Wednesday night.
According to a video posted to Twitter that showed Trudeau delivering a speech during the Laurier Club event at the luxury Omni King Edward Hotel, Trudeau responded to protesters by saying repeatedly, “Thank you for your donation.”...http://freegrassy.net/2019/03/27/trudeau-apologizes-after-telling-first-nations-mercury-poisoning-protester-thank-you-for-your-donation/
