A group of children in Russia’s northeastern Yakutia Republic have, literally, poured cold water over Leonardo DiCaprio’s concerns that temperatures there have reached record lows.

The children, dressed in karate gear, delivered an ‘ice cool’ video message to the Hollywood actor and environmental activist as they stood topless on the snow-covered ground and threw buckets of freezing water over themselves.

"Hello Leo! Thank you for thinking of us. Don't worry, we are all good. The sun is even shining today. Come visit us, we'll pour cool water. Good luck!", one boy from Yakutsk declared to the camera...https://www.rt.com/news/419501-dicaprio-oymyakon-climate-ice-bucket/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

In Ancient Egypt, cats were mummified and buried with jewelry, and harming a cat was an offense that could be punished with death

Domagoj Valjak

                                                        Black Egyptian cat statue

The Ancient Egyptian religion was a vastly complex system of polytheistic beliefs that included an elaborate mythology and a large number of deities. Many of the deities were frequently represented as animals: the funerary god Anubis was depicted as a jackal; Hathor, the goddess of fertility, was often depicted as a cow; and Horus, the god of sky and kingship and one of the most significant ancient Egyptian deities, was usually depicted as an ornamented falcon. Animals’ significance extended beyond representing the gods; they were an integral part of Egyptian culture and society...https://www.thevintagenews.com/2018/02/23/ancient-egypt-cats/

Trump's moon shot might be steered by a woman, says Nasa chief

There is at least a one in three chance that the first human to set foot on the moon this century will be a woman, Dr Ellen Ochoa, the head of Nasa’s Johnson space center has said.

In the early 1960s Nasa sent out rejection letters saying it had no plans to send women into space. Among those who apparently received the brush-off was a teenage Hillary Clinton. But the agency has since changed its tune, and in 1983 Sally Ride became the first American woman in space. In 2013 Nasa announced that half of its new class of eight astronauts were women – a first for the agency...https://www.theguardian.com/science/2018/feb/17/trump-moon-mission-woman-nasa-astronaut

Two trees, one root: the link between evolutionism and Eastern spirituality

by
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the man who introduced the world to transcendental meditation.

Looking at today’s once-Christian ‘Western’ society, one sees two non-Christian worldviews growing like long-established trees, stretching their branches into everything from education, to the media, to the church. One tree is materialism, the belief that matter is all there is, firmly based on and intertwined with Darwinian evolution. Its canopy bears the dark fruits which stem from morality without a Creator (and thus Lawgiver).1

Alongside it a second tree is thriving: Eastern spirituality. With its alluring blossoms promising enlightenment, health and wisdom, this tree seems to be drawing much of the world to its shade.

These two worldview ‘trees’ may look very different, but are remarkably connected by a common root system...https://creation.com/evolution-linked-with-eastern-spirituality?utm_media=email&utm_source=infobytes&utm_content=ca&utm_campaign=emails

“Everyone else is safe. We did everything we could,” a spokesperson told Reuters. “We took them away from the rest of the team and now they have to recover.”

U.S. woman becomes 1st person to have eye worms previously seen only in cattle

An adult female eye worm immediately after removal from the eye appears in a handout photo provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. (CDC/Handout via Reuters)

An Oregon woman has become the first person worldwide known to have had an eye infestation by a tiny worm species previously seen only in cattle that is spread by flies that feed on eyeball lubrication, U.S. government researchers said on Monday.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention scientists said 14 translucent parasitic worms of the species Thelazia gulosa, all less than 1.27 centimetres long, were extracted from the 26-year-old woman's eye over a 20-day period before her symptoms dissipated.
The woman, Abby Beckley, was diagnosed in August 2016.

This species of Thelazia worm was previously seen in cattle throughout the northern United States and southern Canada, the researchers reported in a study published in the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. They said the study indicates that North Americans may be more vulnerable than previously understood to such infections....http://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4532481

Suspected big cat poacher 'savaged and eaten alive by lion pride he was trying to hunt'

The pride of lions reportedly left the suspected poacher’s head untouched (Rex)

A big cat poacher has reportedly been killed and eaten by the pride of lions he was trying to hunt.

The suspected hunter was heard screaming for help as he was mauled and bitten to death by lions in the Ingwelala Private Nature Reserve in Hoespruit, near Phalaborwa in South Africa.

The pride were unhurt and it looks as though they saved themselves from the unfortunate fate of Cecil the Lion and his son Xanda, who were both shot dead in South Africa.

Authorities presume the man was hunting the lions, who left his head almost untouched, after a hunting rifle was found close to what was left of his body...https://ca.news.yahoo.com/suspected-poacher-eaten-pride-lions-trying-hunt-141210605.html

Trudeau to Facebook: Fix your fake news problem or face stricter regulations

 By Alex Boutilier

OTTAWA—Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has warned social networking giant Facebook it needs to fix its “fake news” problems or face stronger regulation from Ottawa.

Trudeau told Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg in November he was concerned the company wasn’t doing enough to stop the spread of misleading information on their platform, a source with direct knowledge of the conversation told the Star.

Facebook has been under intense international scrutiny for allowing so-called “fake news” — false and often outlandish information presented as legitimate journalism — to propagate on its network...https://www.thestar.com/amp/news/canada/2018/02/08/trudeau-to-facebook-fix-your-fake-news-problem-or-else.html?__twitter_impression=true

Sprawling Maya network discovered under Guatemala jungle

bbc.com

The Maya city of Tikal was found to be just a fraction of an immense hidden metropolis. Wild Blue Media/Channel 4

Researchers have found more than 60,000 hidden Maya ruins in Guatemala in a major archaeological breakthrough.

Laser technology was used to survey digitally beneath the forest canopy, revealing houses, palaces, elevated highways, and defensive fortifications.

The landscape, near already-known Maya cities, is thought to have been home to millions more people than other research had previously suggested.

The researchers mapped over 810 square miles (2,100 sq km) in northern Peten.

Archaeologists believe the cutting-edge technology will change the way the world will see the Maya civilisation.

"I think this is one of the greatest advances in over 150 years of Maya archaeology," said Stephen Houston, Professor of Archaeology and Anthropology at Brown University...http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-42916261

Justin Trudeau’s edict to call ‘Mankind’ ‘PEOPLEKIND’

By

‘Mankind’ was always mankind until silly, frilly Justin-Justine Trudeau came merrily prancing down the primrose path to christen it as ‘PEOPLEKIND’.

But how was to know that the truth might come along to bite him right in his fastidiously preserved royal rump?

While all deplorables remain in the ‘mankind ‘category, North American Liberals are graduating cum laude to ‘Peoplekind’.

The latest Justine rump bite came on Friday as Trudeau imperiously tried to correct a woman on her language when she posed a question he didn’t particularly want to hear during a town hall gathering.

In Trudeau’s case, Obama made him do it.

“The unidentified woman asked Trudeau whether the Canadian government could ease regulations on volunteering with religious organizations, according to the Washington Free Beacon. (FoxNews, Feb. 6, 2018)...http://canadafreepress.com/article/justin-trudeaus-edict-to-call-mankind-peoplekind

This Mutant Crayfish Clones Itself, and It’s Taking Over Europe

The marbled crayfish is a mutant species that clones itself, scientists report. The population is exploding in Europe, but the species appears to have originated only about 25 years ago. Credit Ranja Andriantsoa
Frank Lyko, a biologist at the German Cancer Research Center, studies the six-inch-long marbled crayfish. Finding specimens is easy: Dr. Lyko can buy the crayfish at pet stores in Germany, or he can head with colleagues to a nearby lake.

Wait till dark, switch on head lamps, and wander into the shallows. The marbled crayfish will emerge from hiding and begin swarming around your ankles.

“It’s extremely impressive,” said Dr. Lyko. “Three of us once caught 150 animals within one hour, just with our hands.”

Over the past five years, Dr. Lyko and his colleagues have sequenced the genomes of marbled crayfish. In a study published on Monday, the researchers demonstrate that the marble crayfish, while common, is one of the most remarkable species known to science.

Before about 25 years ago, the species simply did not exist. A single drastic mutation in a single crayfish produced the marbled crayfish in an instant...https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/05/science/mutant-crayfish-clones-europe.html
