Residential school 'monster' now lives in child-welfare system: Sinclair
Lauren Krugel, The Canadian Press

CALGARY -- Sen. Murray Sinclair says if the child-welfare system existed in its current form when he was a boy, he would have been cut off from his family and cultural heritage.
The chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission on residential schools and Manitoba's first Indigenous judge was raised by his grandparents just outside Winnipeg.
"We would have been apprehended by the child-welfare system if it had been organized as it is today," he told social workers, bureaucrats and academics at a national child welfare conference Friday.
He said his grandparents would have been deemed too old to have cared for him, had today's rules applied. Their house didn't have electricity or running water and was crowded.
"We sometimes didn't have enough to eat. We barely had enough wood in the winter time to keep the place warm, but we managed," he said.
"And we managed because of the strong-willed nature of my grandmother who insisted that everybody participate in the raising of those children, those little children who came into her life."
Sinclair said there are more children in Canada's child-welfare system today than there were at the height of residential schools, which housed Indigenous children forcibly taken from their communities in what the Truth and Reconciliation Commission said amounted to cultural genocide.
"The monster that was created in the residential schools moved into a new house," Sinclair said. "And that monster now lives in the child- welfare system."...https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/residential-school-monster-now-lives-in-child-welfare-system-sinclair-1.4151517

B.C. Youtuber to seal himself ‘in a jar’ in Courtenay to demonstrate impacts of climate change
Jolene Rudisuela
Kurtis Baute is passionate about the environment; so passionate, in fact, that on Wednesday, he is voluntarily sealing himself in a 1,000 cubic foot, air-tight, homemade greenhouse in the name of science.
“I’m sealing myself in a glass jar,” he offered, as an analogy.

The hummingbird: creation’s superhero
Pastor Mark asked the men at the retreat what their favorite animal was. One called out, “Lion!”; another, “The eagle!” Stunned silence followed when I exclaimed, “The hummingbird!” Apparently that answer was not ‘manly’ enough. Mark chided, “It figures that would come from you, Gillis! Why in the world would you pick the hummingbird?” In a ‘glad you asked’ tone, I told my friends about God’s amazing design of the hummingbird....https://creation.com/hummingbird-superhero

Bizarre Rectangle Iceberg Spotted by NASA Near to Larsen C Ice Shelf
By Hannah Osborne
NASA has shared an image of a weird rectangle iceberg that appeared floating off the east coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, near the Larsen C ice shelf.
The image was taken during an IceBridge flight—an airborne survey of the planet’s polar ice. The mission aims to provide a 3D view of the ice that makes up the Arctic and Antarctic, providing vital information on how it changes over time.
In a tweet, the space agency said the rectangle block was a “tabular iceberg” that appeared to have recently broken off from the Larsen C ice shelf. The sharp angles and flat surface are key indicators that it is from a relatively recent calving event, NASA said...https://www.newsweek.com/bizarre-rectangle-iceberg-spotted-nasa-larsen-c-ice-shelf-1180508

Repentance - Poem by Robert William Service
"If you repent," the Parson said,"
Your sins will be forgiven.
Aye, even on your dying bed
You're not too late for heaven."
That's just my cup of tea, I thought,
Though for my sins I sorrow;
Since salvation is easy bought
I will repent . . . to-morrow.
To-morrow and to-morrow went,
But though my youth was flying,
I was reluctant to repent,
having no fear of dying.
'Tis plain, I mused, the more I sin,
(To Satan's jubilation)
When I repent the more I'll win
Celestial approbation.
So still I sin, and though I fail
To get snow-whitely shriven,
My timing's good: I home to hail
The last bus up to heaven...https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/resignation-3/#contentc

Cases of rare, polio-like paralysis targeting kids appear in Canada
Dr. Brian Goldman
Last week, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control reported a small surge in cases of a mysterious disease in children. More than 60 cases of the polio-like illness have been confirmed in 22 U.S. states in recent weeks. Now, doctors in Toronto say they're seeing cases appear in Canada.
"I can confirm that since September, we have certainly seen an increase of patients with muscle weakness who also had a preceding viral illness," said Dr. Jeremy Friedman, associate pediatrician-in-chief at the Hospital for Sick Children. "These symptoms are typical of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) and increases of similar cases have been reported by many other North American pediatric centres."
Doctors do not know what causes the ailment, nor are they sure why more cases have been reported recently. Children are the victims in the vast majority of cases and doctors are not exactly sure why....https://www.cbc.ca/radio/whitecoat/cases-of-rare-polio-like-paralysis-targeting-kids-appear-in-canada-1.4872205

Dr. Tim Ball On Climate: Lies Wrapped In Deception Smothered With Delusion
The Washington swamp displayed all its corruption skills with lies, deceptions, misrepresentations, and deliberate creation of deceit, during the Kavanaugh hearings. The willingness of politicians on the left to destroy everything America stands for was frightening. We watched Senator Blumenthal, who lied about serving in Vietnam when he never left the United States, remind Judge Kavanaugh of a legal maxim “Falsus in Uno, Falsus in Omnibus,” false in one thing, false in everything.
The only difference between these and previous similar tactics was boldness – the left was forced to show their hand more than normal. There are few silver linings to this cloud because if it succeeds, it is the end of America. Everything the left did and said undermines core values of a civilized society, correctly and uniquely identified as American exceptionalism.
One sliver of silver lining is in the level of corruption exposed to achieve a political agenda. Now it is easier for people to grasp the extent of corruption on the greatest deception in history, human-caused global warming (AGW). It is easier now to get them to understand that the left will do anything to achieve their goal. The significant differences between AGW and the Kavanaugh debacle were time and extent. The AGW deception has evolved slowly and insidiously since the late 1960s. It began as the objective of David Rockefeller’s Club of Rome’s (COR) to control energy and thereby political power. It is just as corrupting and devastating an attack on American exceptionalism but worse because it is global. The COR say they are
“a group of world citizens, sharing a common concern for the future of humanity.“
Compare this claim with H. L. Mencken’s observation that,
“The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.”
COR member Maurice Strong took the urge to rule to the UN where he put it into action. After spending five days with Strong at the UN, Elaine Dewar summarized his goal in her book Cloak of Green.
Strong was using the U.N. as a platform to sell a global environment crisis and the Global Governance Agenda.

‘Third World conditions’: Many of Canada’s indigenous people can’t drink the water at home

TYENDINAGA MOHAWK TERRITORY, Ontario —
The picturesque villages on the shores of the Bay of Quinte, halfway
between Ottawa and Toronto, have long drawn retirees from the cities.
The towns are home to sandy beaches, art galleries, golf courses,
wineries and, crucially, clean drinking water. None of the visitors has
worried about whether the water is safe to drink.
But
that’s not the case for the nearly 2,200 indigenous people about 10
miles away on the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte First Nations reserve.
Six of its water systems are under long-term drinking-water advisories.
Four of the advisories have been in place since 2008...https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/the_americas/third-world-conditions-many-of-canadas-indigenous-people-cant-drink-the-water-at-home/2018/10/14/c4f429b4-bc53-11e8-8243-f3ae9c99658a_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.bdc90e3425f8

Nebuchadnezzar's Fall - Poem by Robert Graves
image
Nebuchadnezzar's Fall by Robert Graves
Frowning over the riddle that Daniel told,
Down through the mist hung garden, below a feeble sun,
The King of Persia walked: oh, the chilling cold!
His mind was webbed with a grey shroud vapour-spun.
Here for the pride of his soaring eagle heart,
Here for his great hand searching the skies for food,
Here for his courtship of Heaven's high stars he shall smart,
Nebuchadnezzar shall fall, crawl, be subdued.
Hot sun struck through the vapour, leaf strewn mould
Breathed sweet decay: old Earth called for her child.
Mist drew off from his mind, Sun scattered gold,
Warmth came and earthy motives fresh and wild.
Down on his knees he sinks, the stiff-necked King,
Stoops and kneels and grovels, chin to the mud.
Out from his changed heart flutter on startled wing
The fancy birds of his Pride, Honour, Kinglihood.
He crawls, he grunts, he is beast-like, frogs and snails
His diet, and grass, and water with hand for cup.
He herds with brutes that have hooves and horns and tails,
He roars in his anger, he scratches, he looks not up. https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/neglectful-edward/#content

Stephen Harper on why it’s Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn, not Donald Trump, who scare him
By Amanda Connolly
Donald Trump doesn’t scare former prime minister Stephen Harper.
And while the bombastic, protectionist American president might make him “uncomfortable,” it’s politicians like Bernie Sanders who Harper says truly alarm him.
“I look at Donald Trump,” he said. “Obviously, there’s things that I’m uncomfortable with but the Bernie Sanders of the world or the Jeremy Corbyns in Britain are the ones that really, really frighten me.”...https://globalnews.ca/news/4541470/stephen-harper-donald-trump-bernie-sanders-jeremy-corbyn/

Construction Workers High Above NYC
by Michelle Young
The fact of life here in New York City is such that if you want buildings that can “scrape” the sky, you’ll need those without a fear of heights to build them and maintain them. Lucky for us sitting at our desks, looking out at the city’s skyscrapers, there are equally intrepid photographers you documented the workers on the early tall buildings and bridges in New York City. Without further ado photos from up top on the Waldorf-Astoria, Woolworth Building, Empire State Building, RCA Building, Brooklyn Bridge and more...

Fighting for their people: Meet Saskatchewan's Indigenous warriors

A soldier’s helmet, a gas mask and a knife feature prominently on a shelf.
There are stacks of gun magazines and books for everything a soldier might need in the field, including a survival manual and a U.S. Army Special Forces medical handbook.
This isn’t some military barracks, but Chris Big Eagle’s home on the Ocean Man First Nation, located almost 20 kilometres north of Stoughton in the province’s southeast.
Sunlight from outside pours in with a red tint, filtered through a flag that hangs in a window. It’s the flag of the Mohawk Warrior Society, depicting the head of an Indigenous man at the centre of a golden sun on a blood red backdrop.
On a wall decorated with newspaper clippings and pictures, one photo shows an Indigenous man clad in camouflage, sunglasses and a mask. He stands face-to-face with a Canadian soldier.
It’s an iconic image captured during the Oka crisis in 1990. Opposed to expansion of a golf course and condos on land claimed by the people of the Kanesatake reserve in southern Quebec, the Mohawk Warrior Society faced off against the Canadian Army.

‘Drunk Birds’ Are Terrorizing a Town in Minnesota
By Chris Crowley
Actual photo of one of the drunk birds. Photo: Warner Bros.
It’s avian anarchy. The local birds of Gilbert, Minnesota, have been getting so drunk that the town’s police department had to release a statement about the spring-break-esque behavior. The warning was posted in response to reports of drunk birds flying into windows and cars, and just generally being wasted. In what will come as a surprise to no one, the young birds have been having the hardest time keeping their liquor down.
The reason: The birds have apparently found themselves with an unexpected excess of booze. A surprise frost led local berries to ferment earlier than is typical, and there’s a corresponding increase in drunk birds in Gilbert. Residents sound concerned, with one responding, “That explains all the birds bouncing off my window lately!” and another claiming that seven birds had run into their car. The officials also expect the birds to sober up soon enough...http://www.grubstreet.com/2018/10/minnesota-birds-getting-too-drunk.html?utm_campaign=Grub+Street-+October+4%2C+2018&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_term=Subscription+List+-+Grub+Street+%281+Year%29

Dead bodies on Mount Everest
altereddimensions.net:
It is estimated that over 200 people have died in their attempt to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The causes of their death vary as widely as the weather at Mount Everest’s peak. Climbers face the dangers of falling off the mountain, tripping into huge crevices, asphyxiation from low oxygen levels, avalanches and falling rocks, and weather that can unexpectedly change drastically in mere minutes. At the summit, winds can reach hurricane strength literally blowing the climber off the mountain. Oxygen levels leave the climbers gasping for breath while their oxygen deprived brains leave them unable to make rational decisions. Some climbers stop for a brief rest only to slowly drift into a deep sleep, never to wake up. All dangers aside, ask any climber who has beaten the mountain and reached the 29,000 foot summit and they will tell you the most memorable, and disturbing, part of their climb were the many perfectly preserved bodies that they passed on their way to the top...http://altereddimensions.net/2012/dead-bodies-on-mount-everest
