Ghost hunter haunts Saskatchewan on Halloween
Ghost hunter and reality television show host Jason Gowin admits his fiancee sometimes worries he'll bring his work home with him.
"She's made it very clear that if I bring something home, I'm out," said Gowin, one of the hosts of the A&E show Extreme Paranormal. During what is his busy season, the ghostbuster, who floats between homes in Los Angeles and Pennsylvania, will spend Halloween night in Regina talking about his experiences - from the quirky to the downright creepy.
He believes people are fascinated by ghosts because everyone faces death.
"I think that curiosity about what's going to happen to you when you pass away is enough to keep people trying to figure it out," he said. "Plus, I think people just really like to be scared sometimes."...Continue reading

Google Transit launches in Saskatoon after 18-month delay
By David Hutton, The StarPhoenixSaskatoon Transit announced Friday that Google’s transit planning tool is now live in the city.
The trip-planning tool was initially announced in March 2010 with transit officials saying it would be up and running by June of that year.
Saskatoon Transit manager Mitch Riabko said it took Google longer than expected to get the system operating.
The tool uses the same data as Click & Go, the city’s own online route planner. Google Transit also lets users know the cost of the trip and compares it to the cost of driving, a city news release says.
Unlike the city’s online route planner, Google Transit allows riders to enter a business name or category, and finds the address for you.
It also offers “Street View ground-level images which allows riders to actually see a transit station or stop, where its located exactly, whether there is a covered shelter or bench, how far it is from a business, and other practical uses,” the city news release says.
The tool is available on mobile devices and at www.google.com/transit...Continue reading.

A stray beagle survives gas chamber and needs a home
photoAssociated Press:
ROCKAWAY, N.J. - A stray beagle mix that cheated death in an Alabama dog pound's gas chamber is up for adoption in New Jersey.
Volunteers began looking for a new home for the dog known as Daniel after the animal walked out unscathed from the carbon monoxide administered by the Animal Control Department in Florence, Ala., on Oct. 3.
The nonprofit Eleventh Hour Rescue group arranged to have the dog flown to New Jersey, where it is awaiting adoption at its shelter in Rockaway.
Volunteer Roger Keyser told The Star-Ledger of Newark the dog "has got to have some destiny."
Phil Stevenson, a Florence city spokesman, said Friday that no one is sure why Daniel was the lone survivor.
"It may be that his breathing was shallow because of a cold or something. Or maybe God just had a better plan for this one," Stevenson said...Read more.

This Man Is Terrified of Puppies
Written by Matt
Call off the search, I have found The Greatest TV Clip of All Time. In Animal Planet's "My Extreme Animal Phobia," badass muscular Marvin, adorned with tattooed sleeves and ink on his face and neck, breaks down into tears at the sight of puppies (video below via Buzzfeed).
In order to face his fear, Marvin has to pet a pit bull puppy that's about 4 months old. And every time I started to feel bad about him having a paralyzing deep-seated phobia, the camera cut to the little puppy wagging its tail and I couldn't help but laugh. There should be some sort of prerequisite for getting a neck tattoo. "I'm sorry, sir, but before I can give you this fearsome permanent mark that will limit your jobs to bouncer and speed-metal bassist, I have to ensure that you're not terrified of cuddly puppies. It's the law."...Read here.

Curious case of the confused grasshopper scratching its head.
By Jessica Satherley
Raising a foreleg to its head as it sits atop a flower, this grasshopper appears somewhat confused about what to do next.
Looking like a human scratching its head, the humorous pose was captured by amateur photographer Matt Cole, 40, in Lount Nature Reserve, Leicestershire.
Matt, from Ashby de la Zouch, said: 'It's always great to photograph an animal or insect doing something slightly unusual...Read here.

Gilad Shalit - 1,000 militants are released in exchange for one young Israeli soldier held hostage for five years
1.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/israel/8833179/Gilad-Shalit-release-live.html 2."...Eat, Gilad - gain your strength. Your greatest answer to all you have suffered is to be free, to live, to smile. May you never know loneliness again. Personally, I can't stand Shimon Peres' politics, but he said something beautiful yesterday - Gilad, you were lonely, but you were never alone.
For all that we worry about the price we paid, for all that we mourn the pain we have caused others by releasing the killers of their loved ones - everyone, each and every one of us here and so many of our friends abroad, dreamed of this very day. Yesterday, of course - but even more today.
The day you would wake in your room and without a second thought, go down to your mother's kitchen and sit there with nothing to do but talk, relax, and be free. The world awaits you - glorious things that have been created while you were in captivity. I hope someone will buy you an iPod and an iPhone and introduce you to the latest and greatest.
Welcome home, Gilad - may you go from strength to strength, in body, in mind, in soul..." A Soldier's Mother

On day of prayer, many of the blessed have four legs
photo
By Mandy Oaklander, Reuters
They came to be blessed, so the Rev. Murray Powell placed his hands on Fifi, Jack and Dr. Who on Saturday afternoon and prayed.
They were dogs and cats, a horse, and, in one case, a python...
"It's very powerful to lay your hand on an animal's head knowing that because of its own inability to play well will others, we're going to put it down," Powell said. "I had to come back and do it again."
Inside the wards of sick and lost pets, Powell walked a lap around the cages, looking each animal in the eye and greeting some. Loud barks and wagging tails clanged against the metal cages.
"All right guys," he yelled as he raised one arm, "let us pray."Read here
