"From the Bottle to the Bottom" Kris Kristofferson

I will smile again
Though tears flow from these eyes
I will smile again
And trust tomorrow the sun shall rise
Though darkness may enfold me
Though heavy rain can’t help but pour
Though shattered, lost and broken
Though heart could barely bear it all

Though tired and weary and confused

Though badly hurt and bruised

I know that I will smile again

And I will smile again!

When you’re hurt, know that darkness is passing. You WILL SMILE AGAIN!

Iran unveils new long-range drone

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian military leaders gave details of a new long-range drone and test fired four anti-ship missiles Tuesday in a prelude to upcoming naval war games planned in an apparent response to U.S.-led warship drills in the Persian Gulf.
The show of Iranian military readiness and its latest tool — a domestically made drone capable of reaching Israel and most of the Middle East — also came as President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad prepared to address the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday amid a deepening impasse with the West over Tehran's disputed nuclear program...Continue reading...

JERUSALEM - A deadly shootout last week along Israel's border with Egypt has shined a spotlight on Israel's only mixed female and male combat unit, granting some recognition to a group that has faced much skepticism and often been the butt of jokes since its inception.
The Caracal battalion's response to the militant attack on Friday — which left three gunmen dead, including one whom Israeli officials said was killed by a female soldier — marked a major test for the unit that typically handles tame operations. AN ODE TO CATS - Helen Stewart

Years ago, in Egypt, the people worshipped cats
Decked out in golden earrings, they sat on ornate mats,
With proud disdain, their haughty glance is still preserved in stone,
There's little doubt about it - they made the world their own.
Today we're far more civilised - we laugh at ancient folly,
Our cats are pets, they have their place, they keep down pests, they're jolly,
But have you ever tried to keep the softest, warmest chair?
Don't you find, unfailingly, your tabby's sleeping there>
And when you're pushed for shopping and his food is hard to find,
Have you ever known him settle for a poorer, cheaper kind?
When he decides he wants to roam, regardless of your flowers,
Can you make him use the paths and teach him 'those are ours'?
He'll go his way, he won't be ruled, the old adage rings true,
YOU may think 'I own a cat', the truth is - HE OWNS YOU!

Amazing Dolphin Rescue

by A good friend of mind sent this video to me and immediately this verse came to mind;
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:26-27
More amazing than this dolphin rescue that took place off a coast in Brazil, is the comfort you will find in the Word. We can always rely on God’s Word – he loves us more than any animal and wants to rescue us from our fears, concerns and worries – all we have to do is seek Him*.Read here.

Miracle dog, tossed from car, survives highway ordeal

Philly.com
Twice in one week Pennsylvania area dogs have suffered ordeals that should have killed them. First there was Brandi, the beagle who plunged 70 feet from a bridge into the Delaware River near Philadelphia.
Then there was Malibu, a Chihuahua-beagle mix dog, who was tossed from a moving vehicle, then struck by anther car on a busy highway in central Pennsylvania and lived to bark about it.
The tiny dog was brought to a veterinarian in York Wednesday by Good Samaritans who saw her thrown from the car on the highway and then, before they could reach her, saw her struck by the car behind it.
The York County SPCA is investigating the case, Melissa Smith, the SPCA's executive director, told the York Daily Record.
"We will certainly investigate (and) see if anyone responds to the media coverage," Smith said. "If we can find out who abandoned the dog out of their car, we will charge them appropriately."
Amazingly, Malibu had some minor road burns but did not suffer any broken bones or internal injuries. There were signs of neglect on the dog's body, such as evidence of flea infestation, doctos said.
The paper reports that donations are coming in to help pay for her care. Doctors expect the dog to make a full recovery and should be healthy enough to be adopted within a week.Read here.

Warden, warder, please listen to me
Be brave and set geronimo free

I said boys, take me back

Feminists from the Ukraine run half naked through Muslim neighborhood.

REUTERSBy Lorenz Eichhorn
The Ukranian women's group Femen, famous for its radical topless protests, opened its first foreign office with a bare-chested march through a predominantly Muslim neighborhood in Paris' 18th arrondissement on Tuesday. In the first foreign office, fellow feminists are supposed to learn how to evade security forces, according to the group's website.
Inna Shevchenko was present among the activist women. She fled to France over the summer after she showed support for the Russian Punk band Pussy Riot by taking a chainsaw to a large wooden crucifix in Kiev. On the streets of Paris, Shevchenko said that the feminists wanted to "go to war against patriarchy and dictatorship." "We're opening the first international training center for feminists … who want to transform themselves into soldiers," Shevchenko added. Other centers are planned for Montreal, New York and Sao Paulo.Read here, photos.

Man believes he is in heaven after finding a free beer truck.

imageguinness BEER TRUCK rainbow
By Michelle Stoffel TribLocal reporter: What does heaven look like? To a 46-year-old Deerfield man, it looks like a free beer truck.
The man apparently stumbled across a refrigerated beer trailer Tuesday used by the Schwaben Verein German heritage club and Grove Banquets in Buffalo Grove.
The trailer houses kegs connected to taps on the outside. Realizing he had nearly unlimited access cold beer, the man grabbed a nearby pitcher and began drinking.
At noon, staff at the banquet hall found him and called police. When police showed up, they found the man extremely intoxicated and called an ambulance, Buffalo Grove  Deputy Chief Steve Husak said.
Before being sent to Northwest Community Hospital, he told police he didn’t think he had done anything wrong. He thought he had died and gone to heaven – a free beer truck, Husak said.
The man was not charged with public intoxication, nor did the Schwaben club press charges for theft.Read here.

Cat named ‘Tuxedo Stan’ running for mayor of Halifax, Canada

Could Tuxedo Stan be the next mayor of Halifax?                                                                                                                                                                             Halifax, Canada, may no longer be a real city, but it's attracting international headlines.
That's because a third-party candidate running for mayor of the regional municipality has a lot going for him: He's elegantly dressed, he has a clear platform and he's popular in the polls. Oh, and he's a cat.
"Tuxedo Stan," an adorable black-and-white cat, is head of his own political party, "The Tuxedo Party," whose platform is to improve the general welfare of cats in the area, "because neglect isn't working," according to the cat's Facebook page. And Stan seems to be connecting with potential voters, with more than 55 percent of respondents in a recent CBC News online poll saying they would consider voting for him...Continue reading...

People Are Nature Too: Photographing the Whole Wildlife Story

By PETER MOSKOWITZ.
Steve Winter loves being a wildlife photographer, but he dislikes the term.
“I’m telling a story like a photojournalist, I just happen to photograph the natural world,” he said. “But we’re put in a separate category.”
As far as he’s concerned, despite the fact that most of his pictures are of or about big cats, he’s as much a photojournalist in the conventional sense as anyone else.
Mr. Winter, 56, has been photographing wild animals for more than 20 years, mainly for National Geographic. But unlike many wildlife photographers, who “don’t do people,” Mr. Winter said he tried to tell the full story of tigers and other large cats. That includes showing the constant tension between humans and their wild surroundings, and the often-gruesome situations that result on both sides...Continue reading, photos...

PARIS - France stepped up security Wednesday at its embassies across the Muslim world after a French satirical weekly revived a formula that it has already used to capture attention: Publishing crude, lewd caricatures of Islam's Prophet Muhammad.
Wednesday's issue of the provocative satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, whose offices were firebombed last year, raised concerns that France could face violent protests like the ones targeting the United States over an amateur video produced in California that have left at least 30 people dead.
The drawings, some of which depicted Muhammad naked and in demeaning or pornographic poses, were met with a swift rebuke by the French government, which warned the magazine could be inflaming tensions, even as it reiterated France's free speech protections...Continue reading.... Cartoons here.

Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar suspended three games for homophobic slur. Horsefeathers!

The Canadian Press and Postmedia News:
NEW YORK — Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar apologized Tuesday for playing a recent game with a homophobic slur written in Spanish under his eyes, an action that resulted in a three-game suspension.
Several pictures posted online showed Escobar with the message written on his eye-black stickers, which are often worn under the eyes to reduce the sun’s glare.
The team announced the suspension after Escobar and team officials met with representatives from Major League Baseball and the Major League Players Association. Escobar, flanked by general manager Alex Anthopoulos and manager John Farrell at an afternoon news conference, apologized for his actions.
“Honestly it’s been a terrible experience in my life and career,” Escobar said through a translator. “It’s something I’m sorry for and something I won’t do again.”
Escobar had written under his eyes “TU ERE MARICON,” which can be translated as “You are a faggot.”
“It was just a joke,” Escobar said through the interpreter. “It was my idea but it wasn’t directed at anyone in particular.”...Continue reading...

Canada Tightens Alliance with Israel - IPS

TORONTO, Sep 17 2012 (IPS) - Scepticism continues in Canada about why the national government abruptly cut off diplomatic relations with Iran earlier this month, although ties between the two states have been rocky since the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
One explanation provided by John Baird, Canada’s foreign affairs minister, is that Iran and its ally Syria are now being officially designated by his government as “state sponsors of terrorism” under the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act, which allows Canadian victims of terrorism to sue either nation’s government.
Meanwhile, his cabinet colleague and immigration minister, Jason Kenney, told a CBC Newsworld television show, Power & Politics, that the Iranian embassy in Ottawa was spying and intimidating people of Iranian origin in Canada.
“There is illicit listening, there is diplomatic listening and then there is national security violations. And there is harassment, and intimidation and monitoring of our own community by forces of a dictatorship,” Kenney said...Continue reading...

Associated Press
LOS ANGELES — Karen Nichols wanted a life unchained to the monotony of twice-daily dog walks, so she got herself three cats. But she still strolls the neighborhood on nice days — with her cat Skeezix.
Nichols took part in a program recently that encouraged finding ways to bring out the wild nature in her cat. Some cat behavior problems stem from boredom, which can be stymied by enriching their environment and involving them in activities, experts told the class.
So Nichols started training Skeezix to walk with a leash before he turned 1. It took a couple of weeks to get him used to a leash and a stroller. (Skeezix goes into the stroller when a dog approaches.)
“You must be patient and devote time to the training every day, but if it’s apparent after a week or so that your cat detests it, you need to give it up,” said Nichols, who lives in Castro Valley near San Francisco and is the managing editor of Mousebreath Media and mousebreath.com, an online cat lifestyle magazine...Continue reading...

Blue Jays’ shortstop Yunel Escobar could face disciplinary action after photographs surfaced showing the 29-year-old Cuban on the field at Rogers Centre with a homophobic slur written under his eyes.
Escobar, who has been with the Jays since 2010, played Saturday’s game against the Boston Red Sox with the Spanish words “TU ERE MARICON” written on an eyeblack sticker, a black patch baseball players wear under their eyes to reduce the sun’s glare.
The phrase’s most common English translation is “You are a faggot.” Other translations are less explicitly homophobic, but more of an emasculating insult.
A league spokesman told the Star via email they are “looking into the matter.”
The Blue Jays released a statement late Monday night saying they do not support discrimination “nor condone the message displayed by Yunel Escobar during Saturday’s game.”
“The club takes this situation seriously and is investigating the matter.”...Continue reading...

Violent riots break out in Jerusalem while hundreds rally against anti-Islam film in Akko. Rioters storm US embassies in Sudan, Tunisia as protests spread across Arab world. Ynet reporters:
Hundreds of worshippers leaving the al-Aqsa Mosque after Friday prayers hurled stones at police officers and rioted near Jerusalem's Damascus Gate.

The demonstrators, protesting against the anti-Islam film that sparked riots across the Middle East, started marching towards the US Consulate but were blocked by police officers who used shock grenades against them. Several officers were lightly injured by stones. Some protesters were detained.

Hundreds in Akko also rallied after prayers at the al-Jazer Mosque calling for the struggle against all those trying to hurt Islam to continue. Akko Police chief Victor Buskila said that order is being maintained.

"The protesters are crying 'Allahu Akbar' and pro-Muhammad calls, not swear words or slander," one bystander said. "It's not against the State."
