Photos: Bears feast on Alaska State Fair veggies

Photo: AWCC Lead Intern, Erin Leighton. Each autumn, vegetables from the Alaska State Fair are donated to the orphaned animals of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.
Vegetables arrived the first week of September; first feed was held Friday, with a second feeding planned for Saturday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. The public was invited to attend.
The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a nonprofit located about 45 miles south of Anchorage in Portage, at the end of Turnagain Arm. The organization is "dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, public education, and quality animal care," according to its website.
Injured and orphaned animals are taken in year-round; those that cannot be released into the wild find a permanent home at AWCC.photos here...
