Rob Gillies, The Associated Press
TORONTO -- Canada called Monday for the unconditional release of a
Canadian man and his American wife after a new video appeared to show
them begging their governments to intervene on their behalf with their
Afghan captors.
The video, which was uploaded to YouTube on Monday and has not been
independently verified by The Associated Press, shows Canadian Joshua
Boyle and American Caitlan Coleman, who were kidnapped in Afghanistan in
2012.
Coleman refers to "the Kafkaesque nightmare in which we find ourselves"
and urges "governments on both sides" to reach a deal for their
freedom. She then adds: "My children have seen their mother defiled."...http://www.cp24.com/news/canada-calls-for-release-of-kidnapped-couple-in-afghanistan-1.3210529

MLB Star Jose Bautista Crashes Children's Hospital ... In Toronto!
PST BY TMZ STAFF
He's one of the biggest free agents in baseball ... but Jose Bautista is still doing big things in Toronto!Bautista -- who just became a free agent after 8 years with the Blue Jays -- surprised a bunch of young fans at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto this weekend ... to spread some holiday cheer.
We're told Jose was in town to hit some holiday parties -- but felt it was important to carve some time out of his schedule to kick it with some of his biggest supporters.
Jose spent about an hour in the ward visiting with some brave kids fighting cancer who also happened to be HUGE Blue Jays fans (maybe some of them tried to convince him to re-sign with Toronto!)...http://www.tmz.com/2016/12/19/jose-bautista-visits-sick-kids-childrens-hospital/

Meet David A. Clarke, Jr., Milwaukee County Sheriff
Sheriff David A. Clarke, Jr. caught my attention because he mentions George Soros in his address at Trump Thank You Rally. Thomas
Sheriff Clarke: Throughout my life and career, I have been dedicated to the study and pursuit of justice, and I am committed to doing all that I can to make citizens safer.
Born and raised in the City of Milwaukee, I played on the championship varsity basketball team at Marquette University High School. I went on to earn a degree in Criminal Justice Management from Concordia University Wisconsin, graduating summa cum laude. As part of my ongoing educational studies, I also graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy and the National Executive Institute in Quantico, Virginia....
...Like me, most people question why the Office of Sheriff is a partisan election. I have never asked a person to vote for me because I run as a Democrat. I ask them to vote for me based on my 35-year commitment to keeping citizens safe. Most voters get it when it comes to public safety. There is no Democrat or Republican way to be a sheriff. The enemy is not the opposing party; the enemy is the criminal...http://thepeoplessheriff.com/meet-sheriff-clark/

Drone Photography Opens New View on Vertical Adventure
Ken Kaplan Executive Editor, iQ by Intel
Andy Mann’s passion for daredevil climbing and multimedia storytelling is reaching new heights since he began using the Yuneec Typhoon H with Intel RealSense technology, a drone that can see.
Being stuck between a rock and hard place is when Andy Mann is at his best. For kicks, he climbs barehanded, wedging fingers and feet into nooks and crannies to scale some of sheerest cliffs Mother Nature has to offer. There are few things the 36-year-old rock climber, diver and arctic explorer likes more than defying gravity and even death…except capturing and creating visual stories about the thrill of these vertical conquests.
He seeks out remote summits with spectacular views, often only seen from the sky. Mann used to capture images from the ground or while clinging to a rock alongside other climbers, but his creativity was unleashed when he bought his first camera-equipped drone.

Billions of litres of raw sewage, untreated waste water pouring into Canadian waterways
More
than 205 billion litres of raw sewage and untreated waste water spewed
into Canada's rivers and oceans last year, CBC News has learned, despite
federal regulations introduced in 2012 to try to solve the problem.
Toilet
paper washes up on beaches near small towns in Newfoundland and
Labrador. In Victoria, B.C., divers report sick kelp and polluted
scallops near sewage discharge pipes.
In
fact, the amount of untreated waste water, which includes raw sewage
and rain and snow runoff, that flowed into Canadian rivers and oceans
last year would fill 82,255 Olympic-size swimming pools — an increase of
1.9 per cent over 2014.
The
volume was supposed to drop as cities and towns move to comply with the
standards the Conservative government adopted four years ago...https://ca.news.yahoo.com/billions-litres-raw-sewage-untreated-100000208.html

Environmentalists have impoverished First Nations, pro-pipeline chief says

'If it weren't for the oil, my people would be in poverty right now': Fort McKay chief Jim Boucher.
Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain pipeline has been vehemently opposed
by many First Nations groups, but voices on the other side of the
divide emerged Wednesday to launch a strong defence of the oilpatch.Chief Jim Boucher told the Assembly of First Nations' gathering in Gatineau, Que,. that his community has seen a financial windfall from its involvement in oil and gas extraction, and that environmentalists should be ignored because they are to blame for widespread poverty in Canada's north.
His community of Fort McKay, north of Fort McMurray, the epicentre of the oilsands, has an unemployment rate of zero, an average annual income of $120,000, and financial holdings in excess of $2 billion, thanks to its willingness to do business with Canada's oil and gas companies, Boucher said.
That money has been pumped into education, long-term care homes for seniors and other infrastructure projects.
"When it comes to pipelines and oilsands development, it's clear from our perspective that we need to do more," he said, during an open session on energy policy at the special assembly. "We're pro-oilsands; if it weren't for the oil my people would be in poverty right now."...http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/pro-pipeline-trans-mountain-first-nations-poverty-1.3886008

Be prepared for more ‘extreme’ rainfalls — think biblical floods — U.S. climate scientists warn
Joseph Brean | December 7, 2016
A huge thunderstorm strikes Las Vegas in 2015. The reason for the expected heavier rainfalls is simple physics: warm air can hold more moisture than cold air.
Ethan Miller/Getty Images/File
In a research paper that reads like it was written by a horseman of the apocalypse, U.S. climate scientists are predicting more frequent extreme rainfalls, the kind of downpours that cause flooding, landslides and massive infrastructure damage, especially in cities where paved ground cannot absorb water.
The same goes for snowstorms and ice storms, according to the team from the National Center for Atmospheric Research, which also found the expected frequency of these “extreme precipitation events” increases five-fold in large parts of Canada and the western United States in the coldest winter months. The effect is dramatically lessened south of the 30th parallel, which runs through Houston, Texas...http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/be-prepared-for-more-extreme-rainfalls-think-biblical-floods-u-s-climate-scientists-warn

‘Trump Fish’ restaurant opens in Iraqi Kurdistan

Donald Trump may be a McDonald’s man – but the owners of a new
restaurant in Iraqi Kurdistan hope his famous name will help boost sales

“Trump Fish” recently opened in the city of Duhok, the local Duhok Post reported.
The restaurant uses a cartoon version Trump’s face as a logo — though his hair and eyebrows are a bright yellow rather than the burnt orange the president-elect favors.
“Trump Fish” reportedly serves up grilled carp at $10.50 a plate that are caught from a nearby lake.

Kinder Morgan Pipeline Might Be Canada’s DAPL
by Andy Rowell
"The fight will soon be over Kinder Morgan." (Photo: Mark Klotz/flickr/cc)
In the end, Canadian Prime Minister
Justin Trudeau, for all his suave talk of being a new progressive
politician, who would era in a new type of politics, turned out
disappointingly to be like all the rest. His suit is cut from the same
old cloth.
And like a classic politician he spoke in
Orwellian terms of fighting climate change, and promising clean air,
water and wilderness whilst approving Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain
pipeline that we know will exacerbate climate change, will impact air
quality and lead to a massive increase in tanker traffic that will harm
wildlife.
Contorting the definition of words, he
said that Canada was still a “climate leader” and added: “Canadians
value clean air and water, beautiful coasts and wilderness and refuse to
accept that they must be compromised to create growth. We agree.”
In fact Trudeau even went as far as to say that Kinder Morgan was an “integral part of our plan to uphold the Paris Agreement to reduce emissions while creating jobs and protecting the environment”.
If this was not so serious it would be
laughable that a politician of his stature is trying to argue that a
pipeline that will transport 890,000 barrels of oil a day of dirty tar
sands crude can somehow be integral to saving the climate...http://www.commondreams.org/views/2016/12/04/kinder-morgan-pipeline-might-be-canadas-dapl

Magic mushroom chemical psilocybin could be key to treating depression and anxiety caused by cancer
Sarah Boseley, Health editor:
The drug psilocybin in pill form. Two trials have shown a single dose
reduced depression and anxiety caused by cancer and that the effect can
last up to eight months.
Photograph: NYU Langone Medical Center A single dose of psilocybin, the active ingredient of magic mushrooms, can lift the anxiety and depression experienced by people with advanced cancer for six months or even longer, two new studies show.
Researchers involved in the two trials in the United States say the results are remarkable. The volunteers had “profoundly meaningful and spiritual experiences” which made most of them rethink life and death, ended their despair and brought about lasting improvement in the quality of their lives.
The results of the research are published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology together with no less than ten commentaries from leading scientists in the fields of psychiatry and palliative care, who all back further research. While the effects of magic mushrooms have been of interest to psychiatry since the 1950s, the classification of all psychedelics in the US as schedule 1 drugs in the 1970s, in the wake of the Vietnam war and the rise of recreational drug use in the hippy counter-culture, has erected daunting legal and financial obstacles to running trials...https://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/dec/01/magic-mushroom-ingredient-psilocybin-can-lift-depression-studies-show

Obama Declares War on Infowars, Breitbart
Dan Lyman & Kit Daniels | Infowars.com:
With the intention to censor independent media, President Obama is now spearheading the fervent assault on so-called “fake news.”
This war on “fake news” began after anti-Trump world leaders, heads of social media platforms and the mainstream press realized they lost the presidential election because they no longer had credibility and influence over the US population.
Obama made clear his desire to limit news reports by populist media at a press conference in Lima, Peru, on Sunday where he also defended the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
“If, generally, we’ve got elections that aren’t focused on issues and are full of fake news and false information and distractions, then the issue is not going to be what’s happening from the outside; the issue is going to be what are we doing for ourselves from the inside,” he claimed. “The good news is that’s something that we have control over.”...http://www.infowars.com/obama-declares-war-on-infowars-breitbart/

“It’s still buzzy,” Dodson tells BarrieToday, using a term he employs a lot these days. “I’m feeling 23 again, and we’ll keep playing as long as my health holds.”...https://www.barrietoday.com/local-news/stampeders-lead-feels-pretty-buzzy-about-his-career-these-days-467889

When will conservatives quit supporting leftist TV networks and social media?
by AWD | 11-20-16
CONSERVATIVE ACTOR JAMES WOODS LEAVES TWITTER OVER CENSORSHIP
Look what a few black ingrates in the NFL kneeling during the National Anthem have done to revenue in that circus! It’s crashing as viewership has collapsed as much as 20% of the “Proles” finally realized they actually could live without watching huge, overpaid men run into each other and disrespect our country on Sundays.
Now comes the “Alt-Right” and “Fake Media” purge from Google, Facebook, Twitter, and the rest of the leftist-controlled media behemoths. All of which enjoy yuuuge support from the very conservatives who are being banned for being “Alt-Right.” What is “Alt-Right” to leftists? YOU!
So how do we stop our ideological enemies in the Mainstream Media and Social Media from furthering their poisonous message? In the wise words of Billy Ray Valentine in the movie “Trading Places,” “the best way to get back at rich people is to make them poor!” So why do we support media empires that are designed to control and indoctrinate us while destroying our freedoms?
Rich leftists in the Mainstream Media are part of The Establishment! The Establishment is protected because the Mainstream Media in all its forms is designed to spread propaganda and socialist dogma while destroying American traditional values. For this reason, Andrew Breitbart deemed the Mainstream Media the biggest threat to America. It is difficult to disagree... Frank Zappa saw the danger TV poses to us many decades ago. Here’s “I’m The Slime” performed on Saturday Night Live: http://awdude.com/2016/11/will-conservatives-quit-supporting-leftist-tv-netorks-social-media/

Canada, meet your national bird.
A gray jay, a.k.a. the whiskey jack or Canada jay — now named Canada's national bird by Canadian Geographic — in Western Canada's mountain forests. (Photo: Tony Joyce/Canadian Geographic Photo Club)
With 450 species in the country to choose from, Canadian Geographic’s decision was made neither lightly nor quickly.
This national debate has been running since January 2015, in fact. But after weighing the opinions and preferences of tens of thousands of Canadians, as well as the expertise of our National Conservation Partners at Bird Studies Canada and other ornithologists and conservationists, as well as cultural experts and Indigenous Peoples, that list was narrowed to five birds. And one finalist best met all reasonable criteria.
We give you the gray jay. Also known as the whiskey jack or Canada jay, it is Canadian Geographic’s official recommendation for National Bird of Canada...https://www.canadiangeographic.ca/article/meet-our-national-bird-gray-jay

Aboriginal culture not religion, B.C. First Nations group says
'Our way of life isn't a religion. It's our way of life,' says Nuu-chah-nulth leader

A mother in the Vancouver Island community has taken School District 70 to court, alleging her children were forced to participate in a Nuu-chah-nulth ceremony that she considers religious in nature and inappropriate for the classroom.
The case has sparked a debate over whether First Nations ceremonies should be considered religious or cultural. But a leader of the First Nations involved says there should be no debate...http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/nuu-chah-nulth-say-spiritual-ceremonies-cultural-1.3855725
Last span of Saskatoon's historic Traffic Bridge comes tumbling down
On Nov. 17, 2016, at 3:03 p.m., 39,852 days after the first vehicle crossed Saskatoon’s Traffic Bridge, the last remaining span of the historic bridge fell to the berm beneath it.
An excavator machine clawed away at the northernmost concrete pier until the span collapsed on Thursday. The other three spans were brought down with explosives in two separate demolition events that drew thousands of spectators in January and February...http://thestarphoenix.com/news/local-news/video-last-span-of-saskatoons-historic-traffic-bridge-comes-tumbling-down
