The StarPhoenix October 23, 2010 RCMP officers and a soldier killed in the line of duty will be honoured at the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations/Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority Powwow later this month.
At a news conference Friday at Wanuskewin Heritage Park, organizers of the 10th annual powwow said there will be a dance competition to honour Sgt. Darby Morin of the Big River First Nation, who died in Afghanistan. Another dance competition will honour RCMP constables Robin Cameron of the Beardy's and Okemasis First Nation and her partner Marc Bourdage, who were killed following a pursuit in Spiritwood in 2006.
"It's going to be a very successful event," said FSIN vice-chief Lyle Whitefish.

The powwow, held at Credit Union Centre, will feature hundreds of dancers and drummers, more than 150 volunteers and thousands of spectators. Whitefish noted the event will be a major boost to tourism in the Saskatoon area.
SIGA vice-president Pat Cook said all Saskatchewan residents are welcome to the powwow. She said it's a wonderful chance to learn more about First Nations culture. The event runs Oct. 29-31....
