A piece of Scottish heaven in Fergus

GUELPH — A little piece of Scottish heaven under blue skies is how one official with the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games described the event this weekend.
Thousands flowed into the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex venue in Fergus, seemingly rejuvenating a nearly 70-year-old event that has recently experienced financial setbacks.
Bruce Lloyd, the event manager, said Saturday was likely a record day for attendance, as ticket sellers ran low on wristbands and "vendors' row" was jammed with festival patrons.
That flood of Scotland-loving humanity was mostly due to the clear skies and the powder-dry grounds. The attendance thinned somewhat on Sunday, but there were still solid crowds for men's and women's heavy highland games events, and the parking lots were mostly full...Continue reading...
