Saskatoon men to be interviewed for Mars trip - The StarPhoenix

Two Saskatoon men are one step closer to blasting off the planet forever.
Andrew Cooper, 23, and Justin Semenoff, 35, are among 705 people worldwide who are about to be interviewed by the Mars One selection committee which is looking to form the first permanent human settlement on the red planet.
“It’s an unprecedented adventure and I want to see how far I can take it,” said Semenoff, an army combat engineer with the Department of National Defence.
More than 200,000 people applied to leave Earth behind when Mars One, a Dutch non-profit organization, opened a call for applicants last spring. That number was whittled down to 1,058 in December 2013 and shortlisted applicants were required to get a medical statement of health and create a public profile on the organization’s website. The 705 who completed the tasks — including 56 currently residing in Canada — now move onto the interview stage. Only 24 will be selected to go to Mars starting in 2024...Continue reading...
