Quebec hit-and-run attacker 'radicalized,' the Prime Minister’s Office says

   The driver of a car that rammed two Canadian Forces members near Montreal Monday before being shot dead by police was “radicalized” to carry out a terrorist attack, the Prime Minister’s Office says.

Martin “Ahmad” Rouleau, 25, allegedly hit the two military members as they were walking in a strip mall just outside a Service Canada office in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu Monday morning, according to the Sûreté du Québec. Police said Rouleau was known to them.

   Police chased the car about four kilometres before it flipped over into a ditch. The driver allegedly jumped out of the car and brandished a knife, at which point police shot him. He died later in the day, police said. The Canadian Forces members were being treated in hospital, one in very serious condition.
   Hours after the Conservatives first raised the incident in the House of Commons, the PMO issued a statement saying Prime Minister Stephen Harper had been briefed by RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Tom Lawson, and National Security Adviser Stephen Rigby.
“The individual who struck the two CAF members with his car is known to federal authorities, including the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team,” said the statement from Jason MacDonald, the prime minister’s spokesman.
   “Federal authorities have confirmed that there are clear indications that the individual had become radicalized. As Canada’s national security agencies have said, Canadians should remain vigilant.”...Continue reading...
