Turkish man wears wire cage on his head in attempt to quit smoking

One man was so fed up of repeatedly trying and failing to quit smoking, he decided to go to extremes in order to quit smoking for good. Ibrahim Yucel, 42, of Kutahya, Turkey, decided to use a locked metal cage over his head to fight the addiction.
Yucel is married to his wife Kawthar for 16 years. She has constantly asked him to quit smoking. He has tried to stop, but he always went back to smoking after a while.

Now, she said that her husband’s idea seemed a bit extreme at first, but after realizing how determined he was to quit, she decided to support it.
Yucel has been smoking for the past 26 years, despite several attempts to quit, he could not break his habit of two packs of cigarettes a day.

After losing his father to lung cancer, which was allegedly caused by smoking a few months ago, Ibrahim realized it was not worth losing his life over smoking and putting his wife and children through the same hardship he went through with his father’s passing.

Inspired by motorcycle helmets, he decided to build a metal wire cage that would prevent him from lighting up, no matter how badly he craved a cigarette.
Yucel went to blacksmiths with his idea, but they did not want to build the device, so he build it by himself. He placed the copper wires as close as possible to make it impossible to fit a cigarette through it and added two locking mechanisms.

He gave one key from to his wife Kawthar, and the other one to his 14-year-old daughter Ayse. This makes it impossible for the avid smoker to take the cage off his head after he leaves his house.

So far, the headgear has helped Yucel stay away from smoking for four days. Unfortunately, after injuring his hand in an accident, he was confined to his house for a few days, but he will soon start working again, that’s when the real test will begin.

Not only will he have to deal with the temptation of smoking during a break at work, but he is also going to have to deal with the embarrassment of wearing the cage in public. Yucel is willing to go through with it, if it means finally being able to quit smoking for good. Read here, video.
