By Emma Reynolds Before you complain about the toe-numbing temperatures today, cast your eye a little further abroad than the light dusting of snow in your back garden.
As Britain is facing some of its first widespread flurries of snow, breathtaking images from around the world reveal gorgeous landscapes covered in ice and buried under snowdrifts.
In Eastern Europe, the Black Sea froze near the Romanian coastline and villagers in Serbia and Bosnia were airlifted from their homes after being cut off without food.
The dramatic icy weather has caused traffic chaos, power outages and even deaths all over the planet as people battle frostbite and hypothermia...photos here
Saskatoon's winter delayed, by Jeremy Warren, The StarPhoenix. Saskatoon's winter delayed, maybe canceled. When people say they can’t remember a winter like the one Saskatoon has experienced this season, they’re probably right, says a senior climatologist with Environment Canada.

The average afternoon temperature for Saskatoon in December and January hit -3.2 C, which is about seven degrees warmer than the normal temperature for the time period, said Environment Canada’s David Phillips.

“That is the warmest it’s ever been in Saskatoon during that time, and the records go back to the 1800s,” he said, adding that the average early morning temperatures were slightly cooler than the record of -12.5 set in 1930, also the year with the second warmest average afternoon temperatures...Continue reading...
