Many ages compete in Special Olympics

‘Training for Life’ isn’t just an expression, it’s exactly what the Special Olympics is providing for developmentally disabled people in Klamath County and across the country.
Local athletes and volunteers are preparing for a fall season that will include bowling and swimming, but are more importantly going beyond the pure athletics and forming the building blocks of life that will benefit the athletes long after the season is over.
“[The Special Olympics] gives them an arena or a venue where they can make other friends,” Darcie Turner, a program coordinator in Klamath County said. “It helps these folks with their athletic skills and their social skills, which in turn helps them become more integrated with the rest of the community.”...Continue reading...
