A rainbow flag will soon be flying at Saskatoon’s City Hall, according to Mayor Don Atchison.
“I’m assuming that it will be flying (Tuesday) in Saskatoon,” Atchison said in an interview Monday.
Saskatoon will follow Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal and other Canadian cities in flying the rainbow flag — a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights and pride — to protest anti-gay laws in Russia, the host country of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
In addition to municipal support, the Saskatchewan Legislative Building and Alberta’s provincial legislature are both flying the pride flag.
Atchison said raising the flag is an important symbol of solidarity.
