The Great Canadian Debate: Muslim immigration a threat to Canada – yea or nay.

The Macdonald-Laurier Institute is to be applauded for including a rather touchy topic in its Great Canadian Debates series. In a country where multiculturalism is holy writ and political correctness keeps many cowed, it takes audacity to ask whether the presence of Muslims in Canada is a threat to Canadian society.
On Thursday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. the Institute will have two prominent commentators, the Globe & Mail’s Doug Saunders and Salim Mansur, a political scientist at the University of Western Ontario and a regular columnist for the Sun newspaper chain,  square off on the resolution that “Muslim immigration is no threat to Canada or the West.”
“This resolution is a much contested statement with high passions for those who believe, and those who don’t, that Muslim immigration is a demographic and political threat to Western culture,” the Institute says. “Those who see a threat from Islam look to violent incidences in France, the UK, Sweden and the Netherlands. Others argue that immigration levels of Muslim don’t warrant much concern.”...Continue reading...
